What are FN Tape and Sheet ?
IMO (International Maritime Organization) revised SOLAS (Sea of Life at Sea) II-2 / 15.2.11 which assigned prevention of fire, led that splashing of flammable oil, leaked from piping and the connected portion in ship engine room, contacts with high-temperature parts.
The revision stipulates to make provision such as suitable protection against splashing of flammable oil in order to avoid fine in ship engine room.
This treaty had been applied to new built ship after July 1, 1998. As to existing ships, it had been applied until July 1, 2003.
Through some revisions, the same provision is stipulated in Chap. II-2, Reg. 4 2.2.5.3, 2.3 and 2.4.
FN TAPE was developed as meeting the treaty and released in all over world market as trailblazing item.
One of the features is that no need any special ability, technic, and experience for application to piping.
Due to contribution against safety at sea, we got Sea Tread Award, which is called Novel Award at sea, from Secretary-General of IMO.
Due to acquisition of type approval from main shipping certificate societies all over the world, and domestic and international patents, FN TAPE is also recognized with the reliability, specific, workability to application, and economic, and utilized by not only ship builders, but also ship engine manufactures and other relative manufactures.
Main advantages
- ①Application and wrapping to piping or connections close to high temperature area which would be ignition sources will avoid splashing of fuel oil in ship engine room and prevent finally fire there.
- ②In the case of flame approaching to FN Tape or FN Sheet, they would not be combusted. : Fire resistant is confirmed in fire resistant test.
- ③FN TAPE has character to high-pressure proof with structure of chemical fabric with high-strength and special Aluminum foils
- ④FN TAPE is superior to oil resistance, heat resistance, and weather proof, furthermore, and has long life.
- ⑤Application to piping and the connection is very easy, just only taping and wrapping. Any special tools and experience are not also needed.
Then we can say total application cost would be pretty low.

Application Procedure
Before application of FN TAPE, cut the tape with scissors or cutter in length slightly longer than needed one without peeling Separator film.
When applying FN Tape, peel the film gradually in response to application work. Complete peel of the film before the work may cause adhesion failure due to adhesion of dust, oil, and other substances.
Apply the tape with care as overlapping of application should be over one-half of width of the tape. Extra forces for the application are not needed, but more prudent application is needed as the tape is stuck intimately, especially to expected area of splashing.
In the case of application on piping with irregular or complicated sharp, cut FN Sheet in enough size as the area is covered in two-around wrapping. Cutting edge of the sheet should be located at opposite to predicted direction of splashing.
Use scissors or a cutter, etc. to remove FN Tape. Removed tape can not be reused.
Store FN Tape in packing box without remove of the film in cool, dark, dry place. Avoid storing the box at place exposed to direct sunlight and ultraviolet rays.
